Role overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Software Engineer to join our team; you will be working with one of our biggest clients who work in a squads model with a team day in the office on Thursday. This team is at the centre of the organisation and are aiming to make a personalised online experience for its audience.

As a key member of our team, you’ll be helping to create components, systems and services that enable people’s online experience to be tailored by their activities and interactions; everything from content recommendations in specific Apps, to enabling people to comment on News articles. These services enable and underpin offerings from the organisations major brands including TV, Radio, News, Sport and so much more, giving these services unparalleled reach.

These applications are a set of authentication and authorisation microservices written in JavaScript and Node JS providing both APIs and audience facing applications. They use the React library and the Express web application framework for these services and deploy them using Amazon Web Services (AWS). Having a strong working knowledge of these technologies or suitable equivalents is vital for this role. If this sounds like a good fit for you, we would love to hear from you!

 

Essential Key Skills and Knowledge

You will:

  • have expertise in Typescript, JavaScript or NodeJS
  • have experience with AWS serverless services, such as Lambda, Cloud Formation, Parameter Store, Secret Manager, Cloud Development Kit (CDK)
  • have experience with at least two of Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS proxy and DynamoDB databases
  • have strong experience with test-driven development and a deep understanding of testing and QA practices
  • be skilled in addressing operational concerns like monitoring, performance testing, scaling, availability, resilience, and security
  • be proficient in translating product requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
  • have full-stack development experience, including backend services and REST APIs.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • knowledge of CORS and pre-flight requests
  • practical knowledge on other AWS services such as CloudWatch, CodeBuild, and CodePipeline
  • knowledge of OAuth and OIDC workflows or any identity systems

Experience 

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or similar work-based experience.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer ideally with a focus on media-related projects.
  • Very good working knowledge of standard software development frameworks, techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience with providing coaching and mentoring
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, contributing to the development of business scenarios.
  • Knowledge of software development tools and technologies.
  • You are flexible and curious in your approach
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Duration of the contract: initially 12 months – contract FTC
