Role overview
We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to work with our media client on their Aggregated Metadata Team. The system acts as a centralised store of programme and scheduling metadata and is consumed by downstream application by RESTful APIs written in Java and deployed to AWS.
You will be joining a team of engineers to enhance the APIs, fix bugs and be involved in all aspects of the API development. There is potential to do some front end web development work in React and JavaScript so experience of those technologies (or willingness to learn) would be beneficial.
The successful applicant will have good knowledge and understanding of Java, Python AWS and NoSQL as well as a desire to improve themselves with a continuous learning/growth mindset and have experience working in Agile methodologies.
Duration of the contract: until 28/03/25 (FTC)
Essential Key Skills and Responsibilities
You will:
- have good knowledge of Java and object-orientated programming
- have coded scripts with Python
- have experience of AWS (ideally Lambda, EC2, SNS/SQS, S3 and Cloud Formation)
- understand SQL and have experience in NoSQL databases
- have experience with JavaScript and React (desired)
- have experience of building ETL pipelines (desired)
- have experience of building APIs (desired)
- enjoy collaborating with other engineers
- have a strong willingness to learn and be a keen team player
- have experience of writing and taking responsibility for technical documentation
Experience
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or similar work based experience.
- Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer ideally with a focus on media-related projects.
- Very good working knowledge of standard software development frameworks, techniques and methodologies.
- Experience with providing coaching and mentoring.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, contributing to the development of business scenarios.
- Knowledge of software development tools and technologies.
- You are flexible and curious in your approach.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
