Role overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer who lives and breathes front-end development to join us working with our media client. You will make a key contributionto the entire development lifecycle including new writing features, fixing bugs and performing code reviews.

You will have the opportunity to work on their Short Form Video and Portrait Video team in Salford or their Articles in Cardiff. The roles involve making significant improvements to their video experiences companywide as you work closely with everyone within the team and in close collaboration with other teams in a highly cross functional and autonomous environment.


The successful application will be an expert programmer in JavaScript, React, CSS and Node JS, have knowledge of accessibility and writing performant code, be comfortable working in fast-changing environments and have a passion for writing automated tests following test driven development best practices.

 

Essential Key Skills and Responsibilities 

You will: 

  • be highly skilled and experienced in JavaScript, React, CSS and Node JS
  • have an awareness of accessibility standards (a11y)
  • have an understanding of browser performance and experience improving code for optimal performance
  • have experience working in fast-changing environments with context switching
  • have experience with automated testing and TDD
  • have experience with video and multimedia (desired)
  • have mentored or coached other software developers (desired)
  • enjoy collaborating with other engineers
  • have a strong willingness to learn and be a keen team player
  • have experience of writing and taking responsibility for technical documentation

Experience 

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or similar work based experience. 
  • Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer ideally with a focus on media-related projects. 
  • Very good working knowledge of standard software development frameworks, techniques and methodologies. 
  • Experience with providing coaching and mentoring 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, contributing to the development of business scenarios. 
  • Knowledge of software development tools and technologies. 
  • You are flexible and curious in your approach
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

Additional information

Duration of the contract: initially 6 months with the possibility of extension – contract FTC (full-time)
