Lead QA Consultant (Contract inside IR35 – 3 Months)
Role Overview
We have identified a perceived deficiency in our holistic quality assurance lifecycle, but have not yet defined what our specific quality objectives and standards are, or how we will know that we have met them. Having some help from a consultant to enable us to do this is the core of this brief, the outcome from which will form our Quality Assurance programme.
We see the purpose of a QA function as a body that ensures that every reasonable step has been taken during the SDLC to achieve a desired level of quality in the end product, as defined in our quality requirements.
Essential Key Skills and Responsibilities
- A strong career in QA Management and building QA processes
- A strong understanding of SDCL models
- The ability to analyse a companies current QA processes and make recommendations around improvements
- Understanding of process/testing automation and able to recommend where automation can help improve efficiencies.
- Knowledge of tooling and training for engineers and the ability to make recommendations of where new tooling/training can improve current standards.
- An understanding of UAT testing
- Comfortable meeting with seniors in a business, to discuss current processes and capture working business practices
- A self starter
- Eligibility to work in the UK
Desirable
- Time spent working in the Space industry
Experience
- Analysis on the CMM of Quality Assurance within the lifecycles of SDLC and CICD (these are not currently well defined, and would need analysis before we can identify needs in the QA lifecycle that overlays this)
- Analysis on current processes and coverage of testing at all stages, unit, system, integration, and UAT for all product components
- Analysis on requirements capture and traceability for purposes of test scripting to expected outcomes
- Identifying relevant quality metrics that can be tracked track over time and help us understand whether we are meeting our business objectives. For example, for our off the shelf products , quality is defined in terms of answering questions like:
- Functional – does Flightkit (one of our new core Helix products) correctly meet our customers’ needs (these needs are in early stages of documentation/understanding)
- Technical – were reasonable steps taken to ensure that the components of Flightkit were built the right way (against our SDLC standards, yet to be defined)
- Recommendations for opportunities to maximise automated testing (at all stages) where appropriate, and retain manual testing where we feel it is of value as a complementary validation of defect discovery (for testing the user experience, for example)
- Recommended process for BAL to achieve its outcomes based on findings (the shortest, most pragmatic yet complete coverage view of the process end to end)
Opportunities found relative to above - Recommendations for tooling and training (for engineers and others) to aid above
- Recommendations on UAT testing team composition and resourcing models
- A suggested plan with indicative timelines to implement practices that have been recommended implement above that enables us to start to apply the practices in line with the following (high level) product release plan starting below (excluding Flightkit v1, which we have decided will require some tactical UAT at this late stage and we are doing separately)
